Here is what happens CHRONOLOGICALLY when someone starts to fast:

After 12 hours: The body starts using energy that is stored in the liver and muscles. The liver organ stores about 100 to 130g of glycogen, while the muscle store about 500g. This stored energy lasts about 2 to 3 days. Initial release of Human Growth Hormone happens.

After 24 hours: After all glycogen is burned from the liver and the muscle, the body starts to shift towards a ketogenic state. Ketosis and fat burning begin, old cells are being used for fuel (autophagy), and the ketones trigger BDNF release within the brain.

After 48-72 hours: All of the liver’s energy resources are burned and a state of ketosis is reached. The way you know is when your pee turns orange just like the soda Fanta. That’s a sign you are in ketosis.

Also, HGH starts to peak, brain and gut healing begins, and an initial start of stem cell release happens.

After 72-168 hours: Stem cell formation rises and the immune system gets a chance to regenerate. Huge levels of HGH are produced to preserve muscle mass.

Fasting & Testosterone

It is true that testosterone declines during a fast, especially after one week one can notice a major drop. However, testosterone levels turn above baseline in the referring period.
