Primal Update: I have been backpacking 25 to 30 km a day for the past 3 weeks. This raises the question: what's the best MACRO split for this kind a exercise.

The human body performs best on fat oxidation when doing light intensity exercise such as walking & hiking. This makes fat the perfect macro for long term travel.

This doesn't mean that the body operates in a ketogenic state, on the contrary - enough carbs are introduced to recover glycogen stores and to fuel the metabolism.

TODAY'S MACRO SPLIT

60% Fat
25% Carbs
15% Protein

Although protein were low, I got high quality protein from eggs and octopus which is full of glycine, leucine and taurine.

Fat: So the bulk of today's calories came from cream. It is very simple: sip cream throughout the day and you can get a nice caloric surplus and satiated feeling. Cream is considered to be very calming to the nerves according to Aajonous Vonderplanitz and this is very true.

Cream calms the nerves, supplies saturated fat, vitamin A and makes it easy to get a caloric surplus.

Carbs: My carbs come predominantly from fruit juices, fruit and honey. Smaller amounts come from starchy vegetables (but not today).

Protein: Most protein that I get come from cured meats which are mostly filled with E's or preservatives. Normally I get the preservative free ones, however there wasn't any available today so I got 6 eggs, kefir and octopus. A protein powder would have been useful.

How I broke my fast:

2 glasses of water

1 big glass of grape juice

5 eggs and one flat peach

Half a cup of tea

I spread my Lunch over several hours:

Half a liter of cream

1 raw egg

1 espresso

1 sparkling water

Dinner:

Octopus in vegetable sauce

3 small glasses of cider

Evening Snack:

Kefir
