What can we learn from history?

In 334 BC, Alexander led a fleet of Greek and Macedonian ships across the Dardanelles Straits and into Asia Minor. When he reached the shore, Alexander ordered his men to burn the ships. He told his men, “We will either return home in Persian ships or we will die here.”

Later in 711 AD, when Muslim forces invaded the Iberian Peninsula the commander, Tariq bin Ziyad commanded in a similar fashion to his troops after having burnt their own ships: “Behind you is the sea, before you is the enemy. You are vastly outnumbered. All you have is sword and courage”

The in the 16th century Hernan Cortéz, employed the same strategy and had his men burn the ships when he landed on the shores of what is today Mexico to embark on his campaign against the Aztecs.

There is nothing so powerful than having only one option.

When you remove plan B, you are only left with plan A. The way to achieve plan A becomes then totally your responsibility.

This idea is extremely uncomfortable for most people. However it is through true diligence that the non-quit muscle is developed, and not by having all options served on a plate. If you really want to do something, then just do that one thing and disregard all other options.
