Health is a very extreme topic and it tends to become the focus of many, leaving out the mental flexibility and adaptability. Perhaps it is the lack of education, or the nature of people as they hunker for emotion.

Health is intuitive and individual, yet we can agree on the general needs of someone. The following trends I disagree with.

𝟭. 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆

From a study done on ice swinging it shows how thyroid hormones are modulated:

“We found that in ice-water swimmers, PTH (parathyroid hormone) and TSH increased and free T3, T4 decreased after a 15-minute winter swim.”

Basically increased PTH or parathyroid hormone increase calcium concentrations in the blood and soft tissues as it extracts it from the bones.

Lowered free T3 and T4 down regulate the metabolism, meaning that cold water is a stressful reaction despite the so called “health” claims. 𝟮.

𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗗𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴

Most people use a specific nutritional approach to correct an imbalance in the body. However, a healing diet or modality is often stretched passed healing. The use of a (restrictive) diet for a short period is effective for healing, but can’t be done for too long. Nutritional should work for you, and this starts with knowing your needs, gut health, and the ideal macro split.

𝟯. 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗞𝗲𝘁𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗗

Another trend is severe caloric restriction, promising longevity in return, not knowing it only wrecks the metabolism in the long run. Fasting is a great modality to rest the digestive system, to clean the mind and even for spiritual reasons.

So fast, but don’t make a lifestyle out of it. There is a time for caloric restriction, so plan those in. I opt for 3 times 3 days of fasting in a year, along multiple one day fasts.
